Several thousands of students like Sarvesh are still awaiting the results for the exams that were conducted in June this year.
Sarvesh Rai, a BA (programme) student at Delhi University’s School of Open Learning (SOL), couldn’t enroll for Masters this year as his third-year examination results are still pending.
“My final-year result is still pending. In the last few weeks, I have visited the SOL office several times, to ask about the prospective date of result announcement. Every time I am told that it will be out soon,” said the 23-year-old.
Several thousands of students like Sarvesh are still awaiting the results for the exams that were conducted in June this year. Meanwhile, the deadline to apply for MA has gone by. The results for regular courses have already been declared.
“The regular students at the varsity get their results within one or two months, but the SOL students always suffer,” said Ravinder Kumar, a second year student, BA (programme). He further said that till the second year results are declared, the classes for the third year do not commence. “At a time when most of the third-year regular students are preparing for their fifth semester exams, our classes have not even started,” Kumar added.
Several first-year students enrolled at SOL also feel this “discrimination”, with some complaining that the number of classrooms at their prescribed centres are not enough. “As many as 1,000 SOL students come for classes at Saraswati College every Sunday. But we have been provided with only eight classrooms. It’s really difficult to accommodate all the students in them,” said Harish Gautam, a first-year SOL student.
“Many students can be seen roaming in the college garden when the classes are going on as they do not get a place to sit,” he added.
As many as 120,000 students are enrolled at DU’s SOL, of whom nearly two-thirds are pursuing BA (programme). Recently, the varsity sent the MA (Political Science) students enrolled at SOL in a tiffy after announcing their examination date three days ahead of the exams. It refused to postpone them despite a massive agitation by students.
