In last 26 years, National Capital Delhi witnessed its coldest night in the month of October on Thursday with minimum  temperature dropping to 12.5 degree celsius. This is three notches below the normal temperature.

Prior to this, the coldest October night was recorded at 12.3 degree celsius on October 31, 1994. However, according to IMD scientists, Delhi's all-time lowest temperature for the month of October was recorded at 9.4 degree celsius on October 31, 1937.

Meteorological Department further states that the day and night temperatures will gradually start decreasing further and the minimum temperature can dip to 12 degree celsius in the next two days. It's also predicted that by the end of the first week of November, the temperature will fall as low as 10 degree celsius.

IMD further states that the day temperature is likely to remain around 30 degree celsius in the next seven days.

Scientist at IMD and Regional Weather Forecasting Centre Head, Kuldeep Srivastav said, 'Wednesday night was the coldest since 1994. The average minimum temperature of October is 19.1 degree celsius, but the minimum temperature recorded on Thursday morning (24-hour average) at Safdarjung observatory was nearly seven degrees below it.'

According to Kuldeep Srivastav, the reason for this sudden dip in the temperature can be attributed to the fact that there have been no clouds in the sky and the weather remained warm during the day. He also added that as calm winds prevailed during the night without significant rise in the wind speed during the day time, it also led to a fall in temperature.

The Met department has also predicted that for the next five days the Delhi sky will mostly remain clear during the morning hours.

The minimum temperature has mostly remained below 20 degree celsius this October. The minimum was recorded below 17 degree celsius since October 16. The average minimum temperature recorded in the last 10 years in the month of October was usually 18-20 degree celsius. While the average maximum temperature in the same month in the last one decade was largely above 32 degree celsius.
