CCTV footage helps Delhi police identify car that dragged and crushed 23-year-old Rahul Kushwah

The family members of the deceased alleged that the police is taking the case lightly as they have failed to identify the accused even after 48 hours despite assuring the arrest in the next 24 hours.

The Delhi police have identified the car which allegedly dragged and crushed the 23-year-old aspiring chef, Rahul Kushwah in East Delhi's Samaspur area. However, the driver is still on the run.

According to the police, the CCTV footages of the area helped identify the cab. "The cab number which was provided by the family members was wrong found to be wrong, however, we have identified the cab through scanning the CCTV footages of the entire area. While no arrest has been made so far and efforts have been made to identify the cab driver now," said Pankaj Singh, deputy commissioner of police, (East). Further investigation is underway.

"We were assured action but nothing has been done as off yet. We demand justice for Rahul. He was the one who used to keep everyone happy in the family. His mother's condition is critical as she has been crying and yet to come to terms with the loss," said Pankaj, the brother of the deceased.

Kushwah was found with his arm cut off and his face badly damaged on NH 24 near east Delhi's Samaspur on Saturday night. Police said that according to the eyewitness, a speeding car allegedly dragged Kushwah for over two kilometres while he was heading for Ganesha Idol immersion.

Kushwah had got onto the car's bonnet when the cab driver had hit one of the men headed for the immersion. Police suspect that fearing mob agitation, the driver continued speeding with the Kushwah on his bonnet and ran over him a few meters away.
