Bike-borne duo robs man at gunpoint, shoot dog in North-East Delhi

A stray dog sustained a bullet injury in the leg after it tried to attack two bike-borne assailants who had robbed a 24-year-old man in North-East Delhi's Seelampur area at gunpoint. The police officials later rescued the dog and rushed her to a veterinary hospital where the dog is undergoing treatment. Sources said that the female dog had delivered seven puppies.

According to the police, they received a call around 3:36 pm about firing in Seelampur area. The victim Ravi Kumar Rathore told the police that he was crossing Gautampuri area when two people on a motorcycle asked him to stop. The duo was wearing helmets and pointed a gun at Kumar. Rathore informed the police that the two persons were riding a Splendour motorcycle. They robbed Rathore of Rs 15,000 at gunpoint. The stray dog in the lane tried to attack them and ran behind the motorcycle. However, the pillion rider fired a shot at the dog. The poor animal collapsed on the roadside near the litter of seven puppies.

"Two calls were received by the police, the first call was regarding a dog being shot at. The second call was received around 4 pm regarding robbery of Rs 15,000. The dog was initially in a lot of pain and was not allowing anyone to touch her. Later, with the help of a vet, we managed to rescue the poor animal," said Atul Kumar Thakur, deputy commissioner of police, North-East Delhi.

A case under sections 392 (punishment for robbery), 397 (robbery with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 429 (mischief by killing or maiming cattle of any value or any animal of the value of Rs 50), 34 (common intention), Arms Act and 11 Cruelty to Animal Act has been registered. Further investigations are underway.
