With much awaited October 4 deadline to hold elections for all the state cricket associations ending, all eyes are now set on the Committee of Administrators (COA) to release the final list of compliant members who are eligible to vote in the October 23 elections.
As per the list issued by COA on Friday, the names of all 38 states — including three government bodies of Indian Universities, Services and Railways along with a Union Territory of Puducherry, have been mentioned who have conducted elections as well as submitted their amended constitutions as per the Supreme Court orders.
However, the final outcome will only be known after electoral officer will undertake the scrutiny before releasing the list after Sunday of the “eligible states and their representatives authorised to vote in Annual General Meeting”.
This will come as a welcome relief to all those former BCCI officials who have been at the loggerheads with COA chief Vinod Rai. The focus will particularly be on Haryana and Tamil Nadu, whom the COA termed as “non-compliant” states in the last hearing before apex court.
The focus now will shift to the representatives of all 38 units being authorised to attend the upcoming AGM. More so because they will be the ones responsible to elect the next set of five office bearers taking over world’s richest cricket body.
The presence of ruling BJP party president and Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s son, Jay Shah, along with media personality Rajat Sharma, former India captain Sourav Ganguly, veteran cricketer Brijesh Patel and Indian Premier League commissioner Rajiv Shukla will be playing the role of kingmakers.
Whatever be the outcome of elections, the first thing on the agenda for the next set of office-bearers will be to constitute the new selection panels, including the five wisemen to pick Team India for the next year’s T20 World Cup.
