Sanju Samson donates 1.5 lakh to groundsmen after producing match-winning performance for India A

Team India opener Shikhar Dhawan also registered his second straight half-century for the A-side before getting dismissed on 51.

Indian cricketer Sanju Samson donated Rs 1.5 lakh (his match fees) among the groundsmen at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram after India A’s series victory over South Africa A on Saturday. 

According to reports, Samson decided to donate his entire match fee for each of the two games he played, which was Rs 75,000.

The 24-year-old played an incredible match-winning innings of 91 runs off just 48 balls as India A secured a 4-1 series win with a 36-run victory at the Kerala capital in the final unofficial ODI. 

“We have to give credit to the groundsmen,” Samson said.

“Because of them, we were able to play. If there was some wetness here or there, then the match officials would not have allowed matches to happen. We really have to thank them. So I have decided to give my match fees to the groundsmen.”

The final ODI between India A and South Africa A was cut short to 20 overs-a-side game due to rain. Samson’s was exceptional with the bat on the day and led India A to 204/4.

On the chase, the tourists were crashed out for 168/10 with Shardul Thakur picking up 3/9 from his three overs.
