PCB ‘proposes’ Jinnah-Gandhi trophy bilateral series between India, Pakistan: Pak media

Zaka Ashraf, chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee, has proposed a bilateral series between India and Pakistan teams in a bid to revive cricketing relationship between the two nations. Ashraf has proposed a 'Jinnah-Gandhi' trophy to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), according to a report from Pakistan media outlet ARY News.

"I suggested to the BCCI that we should hold a Jinnah-Gandhi trophy," the media outlet quoted Ashraf saying on its news programme 'Bouncer'. Ashraf reportedly added that matches between India and Pakistan were the biggest cricketing contests while expressing dismay at India team's recent visit to Pakistan not materialising.

India and Pakistan recently clashed in the Asia Cup 2023 and are set to face each other again at the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in Ahmedabad. However, the two arch rivals have not played a bilateral series since the 2012-13 season. At the time, India had hosted Pakistan for three ODIs and two T20Is.

The cricketing boards of the two nations were recently embroiled in a row over India deciding against touring Pakistan who were slated to host the Asia Cup. The PCB had threatened to boycott the ODI World Cup in India in response.
