The issue involved CSK opening batsman Shane Watson of Australia and Delhi Capitals pacers Kagiso Rabada of South Africa and India's own Ishant Sharma.
The Indian Premier League has had its share of controversies over the years. As the 'Mankading' debate is still going on, this year's IPL saw another issue during the Delhi Capitals-Chennai Super Kings here on Tuesday.
The issue involved CSK opening batsman Shane Watson of Australia and Delhi Capitals pacers Kagiso Rabada of South Africa and India's own Ishant Sharma.
It all started with Sharma breaking into wild celebrations after getting an early wicket of Ambati Rayudu. Watson responded with a good laugh about Sharma's animated celebration, which obviously didn't go down well with the veteran Delhi pacer.
Having seen Watson laughing it off loudly, Sharma went straight to the Aussie all-rounder and prompted a few words at him that resulted in even more laughter. It was Delhi skipper Shreyas Iyer who quickly realised the tension around and pulled Ishant out of mid-pitch confrontation.
It is no secret that Watson gets fired up under such instance. He clearly got into the zone he needed and punished the hosts' bowling attack in even more intense manner.
A few overs later, it was the turn of Proteas speedster Rabada to get involved in another animated conversation with Watson. Rabada seemed to have accused Watson of running on the danger area as he was standing right in the centre. Rabada sarcastically even clapped at this to break Watson's concentration.
Both of them again clashed as the game progressed but it was umpire Marais Erasmus, who stepped in to take Rabada away.
This is another thing that Watson had the last laugh as he produced a man-of-the-match performance during his 38-minute stay at the crease, hitting 44 off 26 balls to steer the visitors easily past DC.
The two were seen sharing a "joke", and as it appeared hugged on the field. It was also learnt that DC chief coach Ricky Ponting also brokered peace between the two at the end of the game. Watson, Rabada and Ricky Ponting were seen having a chat when the game was over.
