Days after Gautam Gambhir surprised his critics with a commendable remark about MS Dhoni, former Indian cricketer S Sreesanth joined the same debate by making an attention-grabbing statement. It was under the leadership of the illustrious Dhoni that India clinched the limited-overs format championship for the second time in 2011.

Gambhir, who played a crucial role in Dhoni's Team India for several years, gave a special mention to the former Indian skipper during the coverage of the Asia Cup. Despite the prevailing perception on the internet that Gambhir always harbors resentment towards Dhoni, the former India cricketer and now a full-time cricket analyst surprised many with his recent perspective on the legacy of the revered Ranchi stalwart.

The former Indian opener, Gautam Gambhir, praised Dhoni for his unparalleled contribution to Indian cricket. Gambhir believes that Dhoni's captaincy hindered his potential as a batter. He argued that if Dhoni had batted at the No.3 position for India, he would have broken numerous batting records. Gambhir even suggested that Dhoni sacrificed his personal runs for the sake of winning trophies.

In a recent interview with Sportskeeda, former Indian pacer Sreesanth recalled Gambhir's statement about Dhoni and highlighted his exceptional performance as a finisher in international cricket, particularly as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

"Gautam Bhai said recently that Dhoni would have scored more runs had he batted at No.3. But for Dhoni it was always about more victories than more runs. He always had the ability to finish games when the team needed him and he won two World Cups as well," Sreesanth said.

"Credit should go to Dhoni, but he didn't sacrifice his batting position. He worked a way to find out which players would do well for the team in which position and then slot them in those positions accordingly. His captaincy had the ability to bring the best out of his players. He has always thought about the team first," he added.
