After poor England tour, BCCI chief selector gives a wake-up call to lacklustre Indian batters

Barring Captain Virat Kohli, no other Indian batsman particularly showed any consistent batting show in the recently ended tour of England, where India lost the five-Test series 1-4.

Speaking about India’s result in England, chief selector of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), MSK Prasad said, “It was so close, yet so far. The results don't reveal how intensely this series was fought but we all know the same the same results could have been in our favour too. We had our moments in the series which we should have encashed on.

There are positives. I think our fast bowling unit has done a fantastic job. Picking 60-plus wickets in five Tests was a testimony to their skill-set and a result of the fitness regimens and workload management we are following. I am extremely happy the way we fielded and took catches but batting as a unit has come to the fore.”

According to Prasad, one of the major reasons behind India’s loss in the five-Test series was India’s inability to pick wickets towards the end in all the five matches.

When asked what will the selectors will do next keeping in mind collective failure from the batting department, apart from Kohli, Prasad said, “After giving enough opportunities, if the players don’t deliver then in all fairness we need to look at youngsters who are doing well on the domestic circuit and for India A.”
