When the Indian cricket team playing 11 for the Pink Ball Test against Australia in Adelaide was announced, Prithvi Shaw’s name drew some surprise. The Mumbai batsman had failed in the last couple of Tests as well as in the warm-up games and facing up to the likes of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins in tough conditions would have been slightly difficult for him. India won the toss and chose to bat and disaster struck immediately as Mitchell Starc got a full ball to swing back in at pace. Prithvi Shaw tried to defend and get behind the line but he could not and was bowled for a two-ball duck. However, this dismissal was predicted by one individual who has coached Prithvi Shaw and is a bonafide legend of the game.

Ricky Ponting, who was the coach of the Delhi Capitals team in IPL 2020, had revealed a technical chink in Prithvi Shaw’s technique and he said that before the ball that had dismissed him. In a video shared by 7Cricket on Twitter, Ponting can be heard saying: "If he does have a chink in his armour, it`s the ball which does come back into him. He does not commit himself to the front foot. It quite often leaves a big gap between bat and pad and that's where the Aussies will target."

Shaw’s woes

The dismissal of Prithvi Shaw cheaply continued his woes where he has failed to score big ever since his comeback from a eight-month ban and an injury. In both the warm-up games, he struggled while opening the innings.

Ricky Ponting also said that he cannot wait to commentate alongside Sunil Gavaskar for the very first time. Gavaskar and Ponting would be commentating in the four-match Test series between India and Australia. Ponting also predicted that Australia will win the four-match Test series 2-1."Can’t wait to commentate alongside this man for the first time, and excited to be back at a ground with fans for the first time in 10 months. Predicting 2-1 Australia," tweeted Ponting. On Thursday, India won the toss and elected to bat first against Australia in the day-night Test here at Adelaide Oval.
