Online retailer Snapdeal has decided against renewing Bollywood actor Aamir Khan's contract as its brand ambassador, an Economic Times report has said. Citing sources, the report says that the contract was extendable by about a year but the e-tailer decided against renewing it.

The move may be considered as a fallout of the actor's comments over intolerance in India. Khan who claimed that his wife, Kiran Rao, had expressed worries over the level of intolerance in the country and had also wanted to leave the country over it, was met with a lot of backlash from the people over social media.

In fact, dozens of Snapdeal users went as far as deleting the app from their smartphones and downgrading it on Google Play, demanding Khan be dropped as the brand ambassador.

At the time, Snapdeal went on record and said, “Snapdeal is neither connected nor plays a role in comments made by Aamir Khan in his personal capacity. Snapdeal is a proud Indian company built by passionate young Indians focused on building an inclusive digital India.”

Snapdeal even stopped using the brand ambassador in its print ads after the incident.

Earlier, Khan's contract as the brand ambassador of Incredible India campaign was not renewed, and Amitabh Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra were appointed as the new faces of the campaign instead.
