Vinita Gupta is a well-known Indian businesswoman in the healthcare industry. She is the chief executive officer (CEO) of Lupin Limited. She has been leading the pharma company since September 2013.

She runs Lupin along with her brother Nilesh Gupta who is the Managing Director of the company. Vinita joined Lupin in 1997 and has been instrumental in shaping and executing the company’s growth strategy which resulted in Lupin becoming a global pharmaceutical powerhouse.

The company has a market capitalisation of Rs 51,382 crore as of September 8, 2023. The share of Lupin was Rs 1,129.50 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Friday. Vinita is a pharmacy graduate from the University of Mumbai. The 54-year-old also did an MBA from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, Illinois (US).

The company was founded by her late father Desh Bandhu Gupta in 1968 to make anti-TB drugs. Before starting Lupin, his father worked as an assistant professor at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science. Her mother Manju Gupta is the non-executive chairman of Lupin. 

She is married to Brij Sharma, who is a US-based millionaire investor and entrepreneur. The duo have a son named Krish Sharma and live in Florida, US. Vinita has led the company’s global expansion through a combination of organic growth and strategic acquisitions. She also serves on the Global Advisory Board at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
