Get paid to sit in India and catch shoplifters in the US: CCTV company devises new surveillance strategy

American surveillance tech company Live Eye is inviting Indians to sit in front of screens and monitor supermarkets thousands of miles away.

As per the job posting of ‘process analyst’ on the website of Live Eye Surveillance, the company is looking for people to be based in Karnal, Haryana, to monitor convenience stores and gas stations for its clients and customers in the US.

The job posting lists down responsibilities which include “assisting employees located overseas remotely via phone or camera”.

If hired, “you will act as a virtual supervisor for the sites, in terms of assuring the safety of the employees located overseas and requesting them to complete assigned tasks.”

The human operator, based remotely out of India, will constantly watch over American shops and intervene whenever they witness anything suspicious.

A new surveillance strategy for American businesses

One of Live Eye’s demonstration videos shows a voice from a speaker asking a store clerk if he paid for a drink he just had from the cooler. Another demo video reportedly shows armed robbers get startled from the voice above and run away.

The CCTV surveillance company, based out of Washington, lists major American corporations like Holiday Inn, 7-Eleven, Dairy Queen and Shell among its clients.

As per a leading American digital news website, a business in the US can avail the service for $399 per month which will provide a person sitting in India to watch the live video feel of shops and intervene when needed.

Qualifications for applicants include education up to class12th or above, basic computer skills, good communication skills and the ability to self-learn on the job.
