Bank strike in 2019: Union calls for 2-day strike, these services may be impacted

AIBEA would protest against the state-owned United Bank of India.

Just after bank unions concluded their 5-day long strike against the merger of Bank of Baroda with Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank, it's now being reported that the All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA) has further proposed yet another bank protest.

AIBEA would protest against the state-owned United Bank of India. In a notification filed to exchanges, United Bank said, "a proposed strike called by All India Bank Employees' Association (AlBEA) & Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI) on 8th January, 2019 and 9th January, 2019 on various issues connected to the banking industry."

The notification added, "The Bank shall take all necessary measures in terms of extant guidelines for smooth functioning of the Bank's Branches/Offices on the day(s) of Strike, should the strike(s) materialize."

It should be noted that the reason for the protest has not been cleared yet. 

In case you would want do any deposits, savings, opening a Fixed deposits, withdraw hefty cash, open a account  or withdraw cheque, draft in United Bank, then make sure it has been carried either before January 8 or after January 9. 

Interestingly, strike against United Bank would be the third protest within 20 days. 

Earlier, banking operations were impacted due to a day-long nationwide strike called by all unions to protest the proposed amalgamation of Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank with Bank of Baroda.However, banking operations would be restored from Thursday onwards. This was second bank strike in less than a week.

On December 21, an officers' union of state-run banks observed a day-long strike to protest the merger and also demanded immediate settlement of wage negotiations. Banks worked on Monday (December 24).

As a result, ATMs had gone dry at many parts of the country and the cheque clearances were held up including that of private sector lenders.
