Just ahead of the 2021 New Year celebrations, there is some good news for Central Government Employees. The Central government employees may now take home an increased salary in 2021. This year because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Central Government Employees did not get their Dearness Allowance.

Central Government Employees and pensioners get 21 per cent Dearness Allowance, but right now they are getting DA at the rate of 17 per cent due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Arrangement till June 2021

In the times of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Central Government had stopped the Dearness Allowance for its employees due to the lack of economic activity.

According to the 7th Pay Commission, Dearness Allowance is given at 21 per cent. But at present, this allowance is being given at the rate of 17 percent. The Central Government has made this arrangement till June 2021.

Impact on more than 5.5 million employees

Employees and pensioners hope that after June 2021, the government can give relief on DA and if this happens, then salary and pension will be increased.

The Central Government increases the DA on January 1st and July 1st. In January this year itself there was a 4 percent increase. Currently, it is directly impacting more than 50 lakh employees and over 55 lakh pensioners.

DA up by 4 per cent in March

Earlier in March 2020, the Cabinet had increased the Dearness Allowance by 4 per cent. Usually, the government changes the DA twice a year to compensate for the increase in prices. This is another attempt to cut government expenses.

Earlier, a 30 per cent reduction in the salaries of ministers, PM, President and Members of Parliament was also announced. The MPLADs scheme has also been suspended for two years to allocate more funds to fight COVID-19.

Delhi Government's New Year gift

Delhi's Arvind Kejriwal government has given a gift to its workers at the end of the year.

The government has decided to increase the Dearness Allowance for its unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled and other categories of workers. The Deputy CM of Delhi Manish Sisodia announced this earlier this month.
