On Friday, Bollywood star Ayushmann Khurrana was honoured with the Most Disruptive Brand in the Entertainment Industry award at IndAA Awards. The Dream Girl 2 actor, after receiving the award, opened up about how he continues to take up such challenging roles.

He said, “I have made my entire career taking risks. Till I don’t take risks, I don’t think I am going to survive. I started as an unconventional actor. There was good self-awareness that I had to make unconventional choices. It started like that with Vicky Donor and went further with Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, Bareilly Ki Barfi, Andhadhun, Badhaai Ho, and now with Dream Girl 2.”

He further mentioned, “It really resonates with the credibility of my films. Credibility is everything. If I go with only commercials, it will be very myopic. My father always taught me ‘pehle Saraswati aati hai baad mein Lakshmi aati hai’. I always go like that. If you have earned respect, nothing like that.”

He also talked about his journey and said, “I have always taken baby steps towards success. I started as a journalist and then radio, theatre actor, television, and eventually films. You won’t believe but I actually said no to five films before going ahead with Vicky Donor (2012). I believe that the first choice always has to be truly different and clutter-breaking, otherwise, I will never get a second chance being an outsider. It’s all about the choices you make. Everybody is hardworking and talented, it’s the kind of opportunities you get. Success is nothing but when preparation meets opportunity.”

Meanwhile, In a recent interview, the National Award-winning actor stated that his film should not be watched with a 'magnifying glass' and has the audience as Sunny Deol's action-packed blockbuster Gadar 2, which has collected over Rs 450 crore at the box office and is on course to enter the Rs 500 crore club.

Speaking with Bollywood Hungama, Ayushmann said, "Ek baat mere mann mein clear thi ki ye film unn logo ke liye hai hi nahi jo magnifying glass le ke baithe hain. Ye clear tha. Agar wo aap dimag se nikaal de (The one thing I was clear about was that this film isn't for those who have a magnifying glass ready in their hands. That was clear. If you can ignore that) This is for the outright massy comedy commercial single-screen small-town audience. Jo Gadar 2 ki audience hai, wohi iski audience hai. Aap logic nahi laga sakte isme (It has the same audience as Gadar 2. You can't apply logic here). There's a crazy suspension of disbelief in the film."
