Composer AR Rahman has reportedly filed a massive defamation suit against the surgeons’ association demanding Rs 10 crore in damages. The composer’s suit is in counter to the Association of Surgeons of India (ASICON) alleging that Rahman took money from them for a concert in 2018 but never performed.

On Wednesday, India Today reported that the ASICON received a legal notice from Rahman’s team earlier this week demanding Rs 10 crore in damages for trying to defame him. The report stated that Rahman has asked the association to withdraw their complaint against him in three days. He denied their allegations of wrongdoing and said that there was a third party involved in the transactions, which he was not aware of.

DT Next reported that the surgeons’ association had lodged a complaint against Rahman on September 27 seeking a refund of Rs 29.50 lakh that they claimed to have paid him for a performance in 2018. The complaint stated that the composer accepted a payment of Rs 29.50 lakh to perform at their conference but then never performed. The complaint also claimed that over the last two years, Rahman has refused to return the money and denied all their requests for the same.

Now Rahman has filed a counter-suit denying these claims. Rahman’s legal notice, as per the report, also asks the surgeons’ association to tender an uncondtional apology to Rahman for maligning his reputation apart from the compensation. It states that if the association fails to meet these conditions, Rahman will proceed with legal proceedings.

This is the second controversy to hit the celebrated composer in the last few weeks. Last month, at his Chennai concert, several people in the audience alleged mismanagement and chaos with many women claimed they faced harassment and molestation at the venue. Rahman’s justification and apology was also criticised for being defensive.
