This National Award-winning actor is India's highest-paid OTT star who has been to lock up twice.
A number of Bollywood actors have won National Awards and Padma Shree for their work in the field of entertainment. One such actor who is the achiever of both is now the highest-paid OTT star and one of the most bankable actors in the industry.
The highest-paid OTT actor charged Rs 125 crore for his role in the web series and is also a director. He has impressed fans with his action, and romantic films and still continues to win hearts. He is none other than Ajay Devgn.
Ajay Devgn is one the leading actors of Indian cinema who works primarily in Bollywood movies. The actor has impressed the audience with his performances time and again whether it is in Singham, Bholaa, Golmaal, or Tanhaji. He has bagged 4 National Film Awards and is also the recipient of the country’s fourth highest civilian award, Padma Shri.
He entered the film industry in 1991, and changed his stage name from his birth name, Vishal, to Ajay. He made his debut alongside Madhoo in the action romance Phool Aur Kaante which earned him an award for Best Debut Male. He then went on to give many commercial successes including Kanoon, Dilwale, Jigar, Ishq, and more. The actor has given a number of blockbuster films in his career.
His recent blockbuster includes Drishyam 2. The actor won National Awards for Zakhm, The Legend Of Bhagat Singh, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, and Tanhaji.
While talking about some anecdotes from his childhood, Ajay Devgn with Film Companion, said, “Okay, we should not talk about this. I could say all this (in the past) but now I have a better image, so let’s maintain that. We’ve done wild things in our youth, everybody does. At that time, things were very lenient, including the law and the media. Very forgiving. It’s not anymore.” Looking at the audience, further continuing, he said, “We’ve gotten away with a lot of things, you all can’t. We’ve had a lot of fun, you all can’t.”
Talking about his childhood days, Ajay Devgn revealed in 2018 in an interview with Mid-day, “Full-on. I have been behind bars — twice inside a lock-up; even sneaked out my father’s gun. And guys, that’s illegal.”
The actor also revealed he was rejected for his looks and for being the son of an action director and said, “Not to my face, but people behind my back would say, ‘He doesn’t have the looks, ek action director ka beta, star kaise ban sakta hai…’ I kept working.”
Ajay Devgn made his OTT debut with the psychological thriller titled Rudra: The Edge of Darkness. The actor reportedly charged a whopping Rs 125 crore for the role making him the highest paid OTT star. Not only this, he also reportedly charged Rs 35 crore for an 8-minute cameo in the Oscar-winning movie RRR.
The actor has also directed several movies like Bholaa, Runway 34, Shivaay, and U Me Aur Hum. He is one of the most bankable actors who owns a private jet which reportedly costs Rs 84 crore. According to reports, the actor has a net worth of Rs 244-447 crores approx. Meanwhile, Ajay Devgn will be next seen in the movie Maidaan. The biographical sports drama is helmed by Amit Sharma and is scheduled to hit the theatres this year.
