On Thursday, Alia Bhatt won her first National Award as Best Actress for her performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi. Soon after the big achievement, an old video of Mahesh Bhatt defending nepotism, and comparing Alia's struggle with Kangana Ranaut went viral.
Mahesh Bhatt, while promoting his home production Begum Jaan (2017) with Vidya Balan and other cast members, opened up about Kangana's take on nepotism, and said, "There is no denying, Kangana was right in a way that the film industry is inward looking. To say that every narrative of every achiever has become easy because it takes birth in a family of a filmmaker is untrue. The climb for Alia, from Juhu to the Box Office was as difficult as Kangana."
