Alia Bhatt on 'Gully Boy' at Oscars 2020: Hope, pray and wish we make it to nomination and then win

Ranveer Singh-Alia Bhatt starrer Gully Boy, helmed by Zoya Akhtar, has become India's official entry into Oscars 2020. This is a first-time-experience for Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Zoya Akhtar and the whole team of the film. Producer Farhan Akhtar shared his emotions with a common statement on Excel Entertainment's Instagram page, thanking Film Federation of India, Aparna Sen, Supran Sen, Anindya Dasgupta and others for the achievement.

Post that, the cast and crew of Gully Boy opened up on how they feel after hearing the news. Alia Bhatt gave out a media statement wherein she stated that she 'hopes, prays and wishes' the film makes it to the nomination and then wins Oscars. In case that happens, it would be a huge and rare achievement for an Indian film at the International platform.

"Gully Boy as a film is really special to me. What's even more special is that it has had such a long run - after releasing in February, it won at the Melbourne Film Festival, then it was also shown in Japan. Now, it's been selected as India's official entry for the Academy. So, hereon, I just hope, pray and wish that we make it to the nomination and then win. This is a first and it's a big deal for us. As a team, we are very excited," said Alia on behalf of her team. She played the role of Ranveer's hot-headed yet strong-minded girlfriend Safeena in the movie, and has quite memorable scenes to her credit.

While a statement from 'rapper' 'Murad' Ranveer Singh is still awaited, the other starcast of the film including 'MC Sher' Siddhant Chaturvedi and 'Moeen' Vijay Verma also conveyed their excitement for the movie's association with Oscars 2020.

Siddhant said, "It is a big moment for me with back to back developments with Inside Edge which was nominated for the Emmys last year and now Gully Boy which has been nominated as India's official entry for the 92nd Annual Oscar Academy Awards.  I'm grateful for the opportunity given to me and a very special thanks to Zoya Akhtar, Ranveer Singh and the entire team of Gully Boy. Words cannot express my happiness, thank you, everyone, for the love and appreciation! Aapne Time Aagaya!!!"

Vijay said, "I am so thrilled to hear this news! We are all over the moon. I wanna thank the panel for choosing gully boy as INDIAs entry for Oscar 2020. The films theme is so universal. I hope and pray that we get a nomination and eventually, win! Cheers!"
