Lata Mangeshkar reveals she debuted on radio 79 years ago; here's how her dad reacted

There's no denying the fact that Lata Mangeshkar, 91, hailed as the Queen of Melody and the Voice of the Millenium, has thousands of fans not just in India but also abroad. She has charmed her way into the hearts of listeners with her euphonious voice, a reason why her songs are a hit even today.

Best known for her melodious voice, Lata Mangeshkar, the legendary Indian playback singer, who is quite active on social media tweeting good wishes and blessing on birthdays of fellow industry members, often shares heartwarming anecdotes from her personal and professional life on the micro-blogging site as well. 

And today, on a very special day, she took to Twitter once again to reveal how her father late Deenanath Mangeshkar reacted when she first sang on the radio in 1941.

Disclosing that she made her singing debut 79 years ago, on December 16, 1941, on the radio, Lata Tai, as she is popularly called tweeted that her dad Mr Mangeshkar was extremely pleased when he heard her sing. 

She said that her father even told her mother, late Shevanti Mangeshkar, that he was not worried about Lata's future anymore.

Lata Mangeshkar's tweet read, "Aaj se 79 saal pehle 16 December 1941 ko maine radio par pehli baar gaaya. Maine 2 natyageet gaaye the. Jab mere Pitaji ne wo sune tab wo bahut khush hue, unhone meri maa se kaha ki Lata ko aaj radio pe sunke mujhe bahut khushi hui, ab mujhe kisi baat ki chinta nahi (sic)."


For the unversed, Lata Mangeshkar has sung in over a thousand Hindi films and in more than thirty-six Indian regional and foreign languages. 

She is a recipient of Indian's highest civilian honour -- The Bharat Ratna and has been conferred by France with its highest civilian award, the Officer of the Legion of Honour, in 2007.
