The police have started a people-friendly police centre, which was inaugurated by home minister R Ashoka at Windsor Square Circle on Sunday. Adding to the existing police beat and sub-beat systems, the centre will aim to address people’s problems by cutting down on the need to go to a police station.

“People can register complaints at the centre instead of going to stations,” said city police commissioner BG Jyothi Prakash Mirji. “If the complaint can be addressed by constables, who will be deployed at the centre, then the problem will be addressed there at the centre. Else, constables will advice which police station to visit to register complaints,” added Mirji.

“The centre is designed in such as way that people should notice that it is a part of policing. Though we already have the sub-beat system, people are not aware of it. To make the sub-beat police noticeable, we have started this centre,” said deputy commissioner of police, BR Ravikanthe Gowda. The centre is a cubical structure with the roof shaped like a police constable’s cap.
