On Doctors’ Day, for the first time, the state government organised a function to felicitate doctors. EV Ramana Reddy, principal secretary, health and family welfare department, on the occasion, at the Shikshakara Bhavan, KG Road, said Karnataka ranked third, after Kerala and Tamil Nadu, in provision of healthcare.
That’s a good record, he said, although there was still some way to go before the state could expect to be ranked first.
He claimed that his department would gear up to ensure that over one year, Karnataka topped on this score.
State health minister B Sriramulu said, “Land will be allotted to the Karnataka Doctors’ Association, to set up an office at the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Department, near Arogya Bhavan.”
About 60 doctors from different areas of specialisation, and working in the taluk hospitals and primary health centres, were felicitated for their selfless service. Seven nurses and a district programme manager were also felicitated.
