The city may get only intermittent power supply for three days, starting Monday, owing to the new power station which is being commissioned at Singanayakana Halli near Yelahanka.

“There are currently three power stations in the city: in Nelamangala, Somanahalli and Hoody,” said P Manivannan, managing director, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company. “This station will be a loop between Nelamangala and Hoody.”

The Singanayakana Halli station, which will help improve the stability of power supply in the city, was ready three months ago and was awaiting the state government’s green signal. “Since exams were going on and we also had a power shortage in the summer, we had to postpone the commissioning of this project,” said Nagarjun, in charge chief engineer, south, Bescom.

Four hundred KV lines are being drawn between Nelamangala and Hoody—this work will take three days. “Hence we have told the industries that there will only be 50% supply and since it is a realignment work, it will require time.”

Power supply in most parts of the city, especially the north, is likely to be hit. “Although we haven’t officially said there will be load-shedding and we’re hoping to keep the supply up, we may have to cut power if there’re some interruptions,” a Bescom official said on the condition of anonymity.

Work on the Singanayakana Halli power station, a pet project of the Power Grid Corporation of India, had begun three years ago.
