The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), on Monday decided that for the flower show on January 26 and 27, there will be charges of Rs 50 per person. For the rest of the days, it will be Rs 10. Anticipating massive rush during the weekend, to control traffic and people, the civic body has taken the step.

Addressing the media, Mayor Bijal Patel said that the seven day-long flower show event which started on January 16, has been extended until January 31. "Looking at the rush of people to visit the flower show, we have decided that we will extend it until the end of the month. We have also observed that during weekends and on holidays, families went to visit the show," said Patel.

By imposing such fees, the civic authority thinks that it will filter the flow of people. It is to be noted that this is for the first time ever, that the civic body has imposed such entry fees. "We are not going to give any concessions to children either. I have asked to add more ticket windows to avoid long queues at the counters," added Patel.

The mayor also informed that civic officials are coordinating with the traffic and police departments to avoid traffic snarls and chaos near the venue. On Sunday, there was a traffic jam at the riverfront because of the two events going on at the place – Amdavad Shopping Festival and flower show. So much so, that the civic body had given out advisory to avoid visiting the show due to huge crowds at the venue.
