Alleging widespread dissatisfaction and anger among the masses, leader of Opposition Paresh Dhanani on Saturday wrote to CM Vijay Rupani asking him to convene a special session of the legislative assembly to discuss 12 important issues.

“Law and order situation has failed in the state. The BJP government has failed to fulfill the promises made before the elections. The poor, farmers and youths are unhappy, and there is tremendous resentment among them. As the opposition, it is our duty to give voice to people’s issues, and hence I have written to the CM for convening the special session,” the Congress leader said. In his letter, Dhanani mentioned 12 issues that the opposition would like to raise during the session.

Action against those who committed atrocities on Patidar women by police and withdrawal of false cases against Patidar youths tops the list of issues cited by Dhanani. Failure of fee regulation law in bringing down school fees, alleged wastage of Narmada water before elections and a permanent solution for water woes, loan waiver for farmers, and the government’s failure to supply irrigation water to farmers due to incomplete Narmada canal, are the other issues Dhanani mentioned in the letter. The Congress also sought a discussion on irregularities in procurement of godown and multiple incident of fires in warehouses, shielding some big names in the multi-crore rupee bitcoin scam, atrocities on Dalits, failure to create adequate number of jobs in the wake of arbitrary decisions like demonetization and GST, and failure to provide relief to citizens from rising fuel prices.

In the letter, Dhanani mentioned several cases of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s failure to fulfill promises to declare Narmada project a national project, changing Ahmedabad’s name to Karnavati, starting an AIIMS in Gujarat, Kalpasar project, among others.

Firing Charges

Gujarat BJP spokes-person Bharat Pandya said, “Congress’ demand does not suit to their nature as they never believe in constitutional system. People watched them on TV coming to blow on the floor of assembly. Their concern for people’s welfare also seems hollow. Congress can never think well being of common man and they should stop pretending like this.”
