The deputy commissioner of police of Zone-4, Niraj Badgujar, on Monday conducted a mega traffic drive in Zone-4 areas of the city, targeting those who are not following traffic rules.

The drive was conducted across the main junctions of Dariyapur, Shahibaug, Sardarnagar, Naroda, Meghaninagar, Krishnanagar and airport area of the city. During the drive, the DCP, two ACPs, seven PIs and more than 300 police officers were deployed to nab traffic violators. On Monday morning, from around 10am, cops were deployed on the roads and they started checking and issuing memos to traffic offenders.

According to a senior police officer, on the first day of the drive, 5,254 vehicles were checked, 101 vehicles which did not have registration number plate and documents were detained, and 4,084 traffic offenders were fined and issued traffic memos to. A total of Rs 4.38 lakh in fines was recovered from traffic offenders during the drive.

Badgujar said, "We are targeting people who are not following traffic rules. The drive will be conducted across all areas of Zone-4 and traffic offenders will be fined heavily. We are going to continue the drive and surprise checks will also be done."

Army man argues with DCP

A man claiming to be in the Army started an argument with the DCP after his wife was stopped by cops for not wearing a helmet in the Shahibaug area. The matter was resolved after other junior police officers intervened. During the entire scenario, a young boy who was supporting the Army man was nabbed by a police officer and put inside a police car for a while and released later.

New vehicle detained

A man was stopped by cops for not having registration number plates on his new bike. After the police officer saw that the vehicle was newly brought, he asked the traffic offender to pay a minimal fine and decided to let him go with a warning. But when the biker started an argument regarding the matter, the officer detained his vehicle and asked him to collect it from the RTO.

Devotee detained

A Jain devotee was stopped by cops from not wearing a helmet during the traffic drive. The devotee said that he had gone to Jain Derasar and had forgotten to wear a helmet, requesting the cops to let him go. The cops replied by saying, "We also believe in God, but you have to pay the fine sir."
