The 11thedition of the Kankaria Carnival is going to be inaugurated by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Tuesday evening. This year, some new attractions have been added which are also going to be inaugurated by the CM.

The floating restaurant, which can accommodate 35-40 diners at a time, would be open to the public from today. The restaurant will charge Rs 300 per person. Along with the restaurant, a new toy train, a replica of a bullet train, will be added at the lakefront. At present, there are two toy trains – Swarnim Jayanti Express and Atal Express. A third train will start plying from Tuesday.

At a press conference on Monday, mayor Bijal Patel informed the media that the chief minister would inaugurate Atal Ghat which has been built in the memory of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The ghat has been built between Nehrubridge and Ellisbridge.

People would also be able to take in the sights of the area in battery operated cars. "There are five places from where people can board electric vans for sight-seeing. In a first, we are coming up with six vans for almost 2.2km of the periphery of the lakefront," said the mayor.

This year, the theme of the carnival is based on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Several cutouts and images of Mahatma Gandhi have been placed at selfie points. Special documentaries on Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel will be screened on all seven days.

Over the last seven years, the event has seen a huge number of people attending. However, since the lakefront can't accommodate more than a lakh people at a time, the authorities have to close the entry gates after capacity is reached.
