With deadlines for paper corrections hanging over their heads, schoolteachers are in a spot over attending a training programme being held from Monday onwards. The training is being organised for teachers in the education department’s North Zone (Chembur to Mulund).

Generally conducted in March, the continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE) training programme is compulsory for teachers from Class 5 to Class 8. However, the programme was delayed this year due to board exams.

“Usually, we hold such training sessions in March, but this year since SSC and HSC exams were falling in that month, we had to postpone the training. This is a good time to hold the training as even the school exams are over,’’ education inspector TM Dongre said.

However, teachers from the Maharashtra Rajya Shikshak Parishad, which has nearly 35,000 members, said though the exams are over, they are swamped with work in mid-April like paper corrections, making lesson plans, setting timetable for the next academic year.

Anil Bornare, a teacher from Swami Muktananda High School, Chembur, said, “April is one of the busiest time of the year for us. We have to complete evaluation within 15 days, so that we can bring out the results in time. There is no time to attend training. We complained to the deputy director of education, but our complaints have fallen on deaf ears. If we are unable to complete checking the papers on time, results could get delayed.’’

However, Dongre said it is important for teachers to attend the programme as it will help them prepare results as per the CCE, which was introduced in schools last year.

“CCE is a new programme and teachers still need to get used to it. Many teachers have doubts and confusions about it and hence the programme is a must,’’ he said.

Dongre said they have kept timings flexible for teachers’ convenience. “We understand that the programme is being held at a busy time for teachers so we have set flexible timings for them,’’ he said.
