Lal Bahadur Shastri, India’s 2nd Prime Minister was a strong political leader who sought out to put India on the forefront in world politics. However, his death is one of the biggest mysteries India has witnessed and remains an unfinished story. What is known to the public is that Shastri died a natural death due to a heart attack in Tashkent, Russia. However, the whole incident was shrouded in mystery.

Several questions remained unanswered. Like, why was his body blue with cuts? Was there a possible poisoning? Why was no post-mortem done? Why was no proper death certificate issued? Was it a coincidence that somehow both the main witnesses were unable to give their testimony in court, one was killed and the other met with back to back accidents just before recording his in court? Was there any truth to the rumour of Lal Bahadur Shastri meeting Subhas Chandra Bose in Tashkent? Was there the involvement of an external agency to gain political power?

In Lal Bahadur Shastri's Death - An Unfinished Story, a standalone docu-drama, ZEE5 explores the possible answers to all these questions and more through credible sources and the members of the Shastri family -- Lal Bahadur Shastri’s son and grandson -- themselves.

Veteran journalist Kuldeep Nayyar openly addresses the fact that the TN Kaul had a part to play.

The show is non-fiction, with a dramatization of the theories proposed by the speakers. There is also use of stock footage to bring in an element of authenticity. It has a very real, gritty and sensational feel to it.
