‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ is in the news for one reason or another. A few months ago, actor Munmun Dutta received extreme social media backlash after she used a casteist slur in one of her social media videos. After all the flak, Munmun issued an apology saying that she never intended to insult, intimidate, humiliate or hurt anyone’s feelings. She cited ‘language barrier’ as the reason for her mistake.

Now, the entire cast of ‘TMKOC’ has been made to sign an undertaking. As per a report in ETimes, the show’s producer Asit Kumarr Modi made the cast sign an undertaking which prohibits them from using foul language or make a casteist/ religious remark that may hurt any sentiments.

According to the report, the show’s cast was surprised by this new diktat, however, Asit made it ‘mandatory for the actors to sign the document come what may’. Hard copies of the said undertaking were issued to the actors on the set, and their signatures were taken, ETimes reported.

Since her casteist slur controversy, Munmun Dutta has not been seen on the show leading to chatter that the actor has quit. Laying rest to rumour mills, Asit Kumarr Modi also confirmed that the actress is still very much a part of the show.

In a statement to the publication, he said, “Munmun Dutta remains part of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah as Babita Ji. Any rumors about her quitting the show are baseless and incorrect."

In May, Munmun has used a casteist remark against a certain community and later faced the wrath of netizens. She then apologised for the same and cited ‘language barrier' as the problem. “This is in reference to a video I posted yesterday wherein one word used by me has been misinterpreted. It was never said with the intent of insult, intimidate, humiliate or hurt anyone’s feelings. Because of my language barrier, I was genuinely misinformed about the meaning of the word. Once I was made aware of it meaning I immediately took the part down. I sincerely would like to apologise to every single person who has been unintentionally hurt by the usage of the word and I sincerely regret for the same (sic),” she wrote in her apology.
