The Western India Football Association (WIFA) has suspended Dodsal FC indefinitely after the club refused to send six players for the Maharashtra team’s Santosh Trophy selection trials.

“We had sent the club three letters asking for their players. They didn’t respond. Neither did they give us any reason for not sending players. The club will not be permitted to participate in any tournament until our disciplinary committee makes a decision,” WIFA secretary Souter Vaz told DNA. Maharashtra will play their first game in Varanasi on February 12.

According to an official in the know, the club couldn’t send its players for the selection trials as the second division I-League matches are scheduled immediately after the Santosh Trophy in March.
“We are a new side and have limited players. If they get injured, there will be no recovery time. The second division I-League games are very important to us,” the official said. “Although we didn’t send them a letter,” he added, “we communicated our reasons verbally. Other state teams are also not releasing their second division I-league players.”
