South Korea beat India 4-1 in Davis Cup

South Korea on Sunday advanced to the second round of the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group I after beating India 4-1 during their three-day encounter.

SEOUL: South Korea on Sunday advanced to the second round of the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group I after beating India 4-1 during their three-day encounter.   

South Korea nailed the berth when Lee Hyung-Taik beat Rohan Bopanna 6-3, 6-1, 6-2 on Sunday for their third win in the rubber. Jun Woong-Sun then beat Prakash Amritraj 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 in the follow-up singles.   

South Korea will face the winners of another Group I rubber between Pakistan and Taiwan in the second round due to begin in April.   

"I had a bit of a tough game at the beginning because Bopanna played powerfully but ... I was able to win the match with tenacity and lots of stamina," Lee said.   

On Saturday, Indian duo Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi beat Kwon Oh-Hee and Jun Woong-Sun 6-2, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.   

On Friday, South Korea scored two singles wins with Chung Hee-Seok beating Bopanna 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 and Lee trouncing Amritraj 6-2, 6-2, 6-0.
