Asian Games 2018: Neeraj Chopra dedicates gold medal to former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Neeraj Chopra was the star for India at the Asian Games 2018 on Monday, winning India's first-ever gold in javelin throw event. The juniour world champion threw a best effort of 88.06m breaking personal and national records on day of the competitions at the Asian Games. 

Neeraj dominated the field so much that his top three attempts would have won gold, silver and bronze if allowed.

After winning the gold, Neeraj also won hearts with his beautiful gesture. Neeraj dedicated his gold medal to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who recently passed away. 

"I dedicate my medal to Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji who was a great man," Chopra said to ANI.

Neeraj, who had also won gold at the Commonwealth Games 2018 earlier this year, became just the second athlete from India after the iconic Milkha Singh to win gold at both the Commonwealth and Asian Games in the same year. Singh achieved the feat in 1958 in Cardiff and Tokyo respectively.

20-year-old Neeraj has won the World Championship gold medal in 2016 at the World U20 Athletics Championships. He also won a golds at the Asian Athletics Championships in 2017 and IAAF Diamond League event in 2018.
