Xiaomi has recently announced that it’ll be launching its first ever tablet, the Mi Pad, in India, for a price tag of Rs 12,999. The tablet, like every other Xiaomi product is aggressively priced, offering good bang for your buck. It is expected in India soon, so we thought of pitting it against the best from the Android stable, the Google Nexus 9.

Display
The Mi Pad sports a 7.9-inch display whereas the Nexus 9 comes with a much bigger 8.9-inch screen. Both the devices have a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels with a 4:3 aspect ratio. Because of the larger screen size, the Nexus 9 loses in the pixel density race with 288PPI compared to the Retina display-like 326PPI on the Mi Pad.

Processors
Both these devices sport Nvidia Tegra K1 processors, with the Mi Pad running a Quad Core K1 Processor clocked at 2.2 GHz, and the Nexus running a K1 Denver, Dual Core processor clocked at 2.3GHz. At this point you’ll be wondering, do cores really matter? The Nexus has a 64-bit processor which goes well with the 64-bit Android Lollipop. The Mi Pad on the other hand has 32 bit cores. These devices have 192 core Keplar GPU making them suitable for some intense gaming and 2GB of RAM ensures smooth multitasking.

Software & Storage
If software is a priority for you then this is where the decision making lies. The Nexus 9 runs the latest Android Lollipop while the Mi Pad runs Xiaomi’s custom MIUI 6 on top of Android 4.4 Kitkat. The UI on the Mi Pad is quite similar to that on their phones but lacks the customization options that they offer, and this might be a deal breaker for some. While the Nexus is known to get the latest updates directly from Google, the Mi Pad might have to wait to get a taste of the new OS. Storage-wise, both the devices are only available in 16GB Wi-Fi variant but the Mi Pad gets a MicroSD card slot that accepts cards up to 128GB.

Both the devices have batteries rated at 6700mAh but the Mi Pad might have a slight advantage thanks to its smaller display. These tablets have 8 megapixel cameras at the back, the Nexus gets LED flash but the Mi Pad misses out on it. For the front facing camera the, Mi Pad has a 5 megapixel shooter whereas the Nexus 9 is stuck with a 1.6 MP camera. The two tablets have stereo speakers but the Nexus 9 has a slight advantage from those front facing Boom Sound speakers. While these devices sport fairly similar specifications,we can say that the Mi Pad offers twice the number of cores at less than half the price.
