The DN Nagar have arrested a man for allegedly cheating many people, including a Shiv Sena shaka pramukh from Andheri and a school principal, of Rs1 crore by promising them easy loans of Rs1 crore to Rs10 crore.

Mansukh Vora, alias Manubhai Vora, alias Dinesh Joshi, who was arrested on Sunday, has many cases of cheating against him at police stations in Borivili, Oshiwara, Andheri, Dombivili, and Kalyan, inspector Rajendra Chauhan of DN Nagar police station said. The first case of cheating against him was registered in the Borivili police station in 2001, he said. He has cases in Gujarat also, he said.

Chauhan said Vora gave advertisements in prominent newspapers under the name of Nakoda Finance and Spot Finance. The advertisements said the firm offered loans ranging from Rs1 lakh to Rs10 crore and that the applicants would be charged a processing fee of 1% of the loan amount needed.

He never met any of the applicants. He would send two of his assistants to the person wanting the loan, Chauhan said. The assistants would collect the documents and the processing fee from the loan-seeker. After taking the fee amount, Vora would disappear without giving the loan.

He had appointed 4 to 5 assistants for dealing with prospective customers, sub-inspector Sarita Bhosle said.

“He has cheated a principal of a school in Mira Road and a Shiv Sena shakha pramukh from Andheri,” Chauhan said, without revealing names. “We expect many more to file complaints once they get the news of his arrest.”

The police have recovered from him a VIP pass of the Department of Home Affairs and a fake identity card stating that he is a vigilance officer from the Indian Council of Anti-Corruption.

After arresting him, the DN Nagar police handed him over to Amboli police, with whom the case is registered. He has been remanded in police custody till December 25, Ghamande, senior inspector of Amboli police station said.

Investigations have revealed that for all his bank accounts, Vora had given an resident in ESIC Nagar near DN Nagar in Andheri (West). He had his own flat in Shanti Garden in Srishti Complex in Mira Road (East). But, he never stayed in his own flat, preferring
