Volkswagen rolls out 1,00,000th car

Volkswagen India Private Limited (VIPL) rolled out the 1,00,000th car, a Volkswagen Vento, from its manufacturing plant in Chakan, Pune on Friday.

Member of Parliament Supriya Sule, Volkswagen Group chief representative of India and president & MD, VIPL, John Chacko and executive director, technical, VIPL, Holger Nestler, attended the event.

While speaking at the event, Sule said, “I draw satisfaction that our government policies have been able to attract auto majors which helped in making Maharashtra a vibrant auto destination. This also provides ample employment opportunities.”

According to the press statement released by the company, the Pune plant, which has a capacity of 130,000 cars, is one of the most modern in the Volkswagen Group which has 62 plants across the world.

The plant, which was built in a span of 17 months, has an investment of Rs3,800 crore (580 million Euros) by Volkswagen India. It is the largest investment till date by a German company in India.

Speaking about the journey of Volkswagen India, Nestler said, “We inaugurated the plant in March 2009 and our India journey since then has been exciting and enriching enabling us achieve the completion of 100,000 cars in such a short period of time. With this remarkable figure, we have proved that the cars built at the Pune plant demonstrate the excellence created when German engineering prowess interacts perfectly with Indian skills.”
