MUMBAI: Police on Monday arrested three teenagers who were involved in allegedly targeting people at isolated places at Juhu beach and then robbing them.

Describing their modus operandi, police said, the gang of juveniles would target people strolling at isolated areas and then loot them of their valuables.

Deepak Katkade, senior police inspector of the Juhu police station said, “The three, along with their leader, targeted one Imran Chowdhary and his friend who were walking behind hotel Holiday Inn early on Monday morning. They then deliberately picked up a fight with the two and snatched mobile phones worth Rs10,000 from them.

“Fortunately, two beat marshals who were patrolling that area, heard the ruckus and rushed to the scene. They managed to apprehend the three teenagers, but the gang-leader managed to escape,” Katkade said.

During interrogations, the youths, who are residents of Koliwada area in Santa Cruz, confessed to their crime and told the police that their gang-leader had taught them how to target victims.

The police were now on the look-out for the gang leader who is also a resident of the Koliwada area, Katkade added.
