One of the biggest redevelopment projects in the city, the Abhudaya Nagar redevelopment plan, spread over 33 acre of land in Kalachowki area was called off by the federation. The decision was taken on Thursday, after a special general body meeting was called. The federation decided to call off the tender for redevelopment that was awarded to Keystone Realtors (Rustomjee), citing delay in the work as reason. The developers claimed that they haven't yet received any official announcement from the federation of the societies and have sought a meeting with them.

Nandkumar Katkar, Chairman, Abhudhaya Nagar Cooperative Housing Societies Federation, consisting of 48 societies and 3,410 residents, confirmed the development.

Katkar said, "In July 2017, we had held polls to elect a developer and Keystone was selected. Then, in April 2018, we held a special general body meeting and asked the developer to pay the stamp duty within six months of time. However, the developer, in September, sought a further extension of six months which was awarded until March 2019. After this, seeing that things weren't moving in the direction as expected, the members of the federation and societies cancelled the tender awarded to the developer."

According to Katkar, the federation has decided to cancel the award, and now, 48 societies have to pass a resolution for the same and inform the federation and for that they have been given some time.

A statement from the company representative of Rustomjee read, "Due to the unavailability of the concerned project in-charge, we have requested the federation for a follow-up meeting. However, we would like to clarify that no such official communication has been received by us. Our relationship with the tenants has been transparent and we are of the belief that no such step will be taken against us. We will look into the matter and understand the concern."
