Finding partners on dating sites are common but finding a LGBT partner is not. A month ago, LGBT activist Karan Kariappa founded a Facebook page 'Amour-Queer Dating' for the LGBT community where they can find and meet a partner from their community.
Even if the page was founded a month ago on June 4, they already have 250 profiles who are searching for a partner. It is co-founded by Dolly Koshy.
Talking about the aim of the platform, Kariappa said: "We were trying to develop a concept similar to what we have created now. Everybody needs a partner in life to share their joys and sorrows. We need to have a person with us who will listen and stand by us during our difficult time. To search a partner, there are multiple sites but LGBT community is not entertained on them. So, we worked on a platform which will help the LGBT community to search their partner from different part of the country."
One needs to sign up the Google form before to register themselves with the platform. Our team will verify the person before confirming the profile of a person and later gives a unique identity number to each one.
Before developing the blog and Facebook page, they consulted the senior members of the community to give inputs and ideas to develop the platform. So far, apart from 250 profiles, the team has over 360 members, including seniors who guide the matchmakers.
"It is a long term platform. The senior members are like a helping hand to guide us and the partners if they need help. Many members from Mumbai and Bangalore have joined the group. We are asking for feedbacks as wee," said Kariappa.
While a member who joined the group states that it helps to connect with the help. Mumbai-based Vinay Aarote said: "The platform is helpful to find a person whom you want to meet. They don't give out details of the person without verification. It is an advantage that they identify the fake profiles before the registration." Also, the founders are coming up with a speed dating events for the community in various cities.
