Abdul, a driver, was badly beaten up allegedly by his employer on Friday on Pali Road in Bandra. His mistake was that he had reportedly  requested his employer a woman (name withheld) in her early 30s,to wait for five minutes while he offered his namaaz and broke his fast.

Friday was the first day of the holy month of Ramzan. During this month, Muslims across the world fast through the day and break their fast only after sunset.

The moment Abdul made this request, the woman allegedly started abusing him, rained punches on him. She dragged him out of the car and pushed him so hard that he fell over an iron railing. She snatched his food and threw it on the road, eyewitnesses said.

Seeing this, a crowd gathered and demanded an explanation from her. Even the crowd, who resisted, bore the brunt of her anger as she shouted and abused anyone who tried to stop her.

A woman named Mariha tried to intervene. Abdul’s employer hurled choicest abuses at her. The commotion also brought the traffic to a grinding halt for a while till the local police came to the site.

Even a traffic constable’s interference did not deter the woman. She even shouted at him. The traffic constable informed the police patrol vehicle which immediately reached the spot. Abdul, who was in no condition to move because of his injuries, was rushed to Bhabha Hospital for medical aid.

Both Abdul and his employer were then taken to the Bandra police station. Confirming the incident, an official from the Bandra police station said that since neither of them filed any complaint, and were let off after a stern warning. His employer left the police station in another car.
