The original workers of Mumbai, the mill workers, will have to wait further to have a home in Mumbai. Earlier, there were talks of MHADA holding a lottery of close to 5,090 homes located in Central Mumbai for mill workers in August. However, that was pushed to after Ganesh Chaturthi and now, it has been pushed to after elections.

There are around 1.75 lakh mill workers, of which close to 10,000-11,000 have got homes till now. Many mill workers reside in their native place now. Most of these mill workers had lost their jobs due to the closure of mills.

Uday Samant, President, MHADA said that they are trying their best to make the lottery happen soon.

A senior official said, "There were plans to have the lottery before elections, however, the proposal had to get the monitoring committee's nod. However, now it looks like it will have to wait until after the elections."
