Krishna Reddy, BJP corporator allegedly slapped Yogesh Gotad, junior officer of BMC, at an inspection of cleaning of nullah in the area. The corporator, however, has refused the allegations made by the BMC officer. She has alleged that the cleaning work has been delayed which is likely to cause water logging in the area. She agreed that she pointed out the failure of the officer, however, she denied any charge of slapping him. Meanwhile, Wadala Truck terminal police have filed a case against the corporator and have started their investigation.
The incident took place on Thursday morning at Vijay Nagar road, Wadala when BMC's S North ward's junior overseer officer Yogesh Gotad (31) was overseeing the nullah cleaning work with his staff.
"I was cleaning nullah in my area with my staff where corporator Krishna Reddy argued with me about the incomplete work. I told her that all work will finish today however she argued, slapped and abused me," informed Gotad.
"I didn't slapped him. We only had an argument as he failed to clean nullahs even after so many complaints. This can lead to water logging in the area," said Corporator Krishna Reddy in her defence.
Later Gotad registered a case against Reddy.
"We have registered a case against the corporator but haven't arrested her as yet. We are conducting an inquiry," said Senior Inspector Rajendra Sangle.
This is not just one instance of attacks on civic officials. On Tuesday, Mumbai's mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar allegedly slapped the chief engineer of Storm Water Drains (SWD) department, Vidyadhar Khandkar when he was completing the concrete work near the Thackeray residence Matoshree at Bandra for not completing the work.
Municipal Mazdoor Union Secretary Govind Kamtekar said, "The numbers are increased of attacks on civic officials. We are strongly against it. Nobody has the authority to slap anyone. We have to make a strong law and we will work towards it."
