As part of the ongoing probe into the Maharashtra Sadan scam involving the then PWD minister Chhagan Bhujbal, The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday conducted a search at the government rest house in Kalanagar, Bandra (east) and seized eight bags full of documents, registers, mobiles, CDs and liquor bottles from a room that had been kept locked for a long time.
As part of the ongoing probe into the Maharashtra Sadan scam involving the then PWD minister Chhagan Bhujbal, The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday conducted a search at the government rest house in Kalanagar, Bandra (east) and seized eight bags full of documents, registers, mobiles, CDs and liquor bottles from a room that had been kept locked for a long time.
An ACB official said, "We received information that several material related to the scam were lying in the room. With the help of a few current PWD officials, we unlocked the room and seized items."
Anti-graft officials said the confiscated material will be scrutinised with the help of a special investigation team that has been formed by the ACB to look into the case, along with current PWD officials.
"All the materials are in our custody. We will examine them and find out how relevant they are to the case, based on which we will question the then minister and other officials," added the officer.
Bhujbal has been accused of giving the contract for the new Maharashtra Sadan building in New Delhi to his friends and relatives in 2012, which led to the cost of project escalating to Rs 150 crore. The case also points out to several other irregularities allegedly committed by minister. The ACB is probing 11 allegations associated with the Maharashtra Sadan scam. In 2012, the Bombay High Court along with the state ordered the ACB to investigate the matter.
