Hurry 26/11 acquitted appeals: Bombay high court tells cops

The police may have to hurry up their process of drafting an appeal against the acquittal of Faheem Ansari and Sabauddin Ahmed in the 26/11 terror attacks case, or the appeal period may lapse, the public prosecutor’s office of the Bombay high court has cautioned.

Addressed to the joint commissioner of police (crime), the letter written by public prosecutor Pandurang Pol on Tuesday states that the draft of the appeal should be submitted to the prosecutor’s office by July 30 to enable processing of documents for filing of the appeal.   

“You are requested to coordinate with special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam for drafting the appeal memo and application for leave to appeal so that the appeal memo is submitted to the office of the public prosecutor as early as possible and in any event on or before July 30, 2010 as the aforesaid memo should be filed on or before August 4, 2010...” states Pol’s letter.   

The state government is challenging the acquittal of both the accused who were tried alongside Pakistani terrorist Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab for their alleged involvement in the 26/11 conspiracy.
