As the state and Parliament elections are drawing closer, political parties are pulling up their socks. The BJP state unit has issued directions to all the BJP ministers in the state to remain present in Mantralaya on at least two Wednesdays in a month.

Party sources told that it is mandatory for ministers to be in Mantralaya on second and fourth Wednesday of every month, and the rule has been levied not just in Maharashtra but on all the BJP-ruled states to create an atmosphere of accountability. This pattern has been implemented in Gujarat and has benefited party in that state.

It was Narendra Modi who had said soon after assuming the office of the Prime Minister that his agenda would be four years of development and last one year of politics. Taking in to account possibility of snap polls, BJP Maharashtra unit has asked ministers to be more responsive to people. Thus, ministers had been directed to be present in their offices in Mantralaya on every second and fourth Wednesday of the month so that people coming to Mumbai from remote places can voice their grievances and get their work done easily.

Generally, people throng Mantralaya on every Tuesday with a hope to meet the ministers since state Cabinet meeting is held on Tuesdays. A senior party worker told on the condition of anonymity, "After much efforts, people reach Mantralaya in a hope to meet the ministers, but return dismayed when without getting an audience. If ministers are available to give a patient ear to their grievances, half the problem is solved."

A senior leader, on the condition of anonymity, said that many a times, common man gets frustrated with a cold response from bureaucracy. He said that more than the common man, it is party workers who spread the ill-word. Presence of ministers in Mantralaya would help pacify the party workers more than the common man since not most of the common people can actually reach Mantralaya to put forward their issues.
