Pratibha Pai, the chairperson of Maker Towers-H at Cuffe Parade, says, “One of the best things about our society is that the residents live in true spirit of total co-operation. Never has there been an incident where two residents have fought over petty issues.” They formed a new committee around two years ago, and when it was formed, they decided that there would be complete transparency.

One of the major objectives of the committee is to carry out repair work in the society, since it is a 30-year-old society. Raj Daryanani, the honorary secretary of the society, says, “While the repair work was going on, we had full co-operation from the residents, and that is what is the best part about this society. Everyone is very accommodative.” Daryanani also talked about the revamping of the terrace. “During the course of repairs, the entire terrace was revamped. Now the terrace is more user-friendly and safe. As far as the security is concerned, we have installed CCTV cameras at all the major points of the building.” Pai mentions that the committee sees to the repairs on a daily basis. The society also plans to start vermiculture on the terrace. “We also segregate the waste into dry and wet waste,” says Pratibha Pai.

Pai talked about the different events that the society organises. “We usually have the annual society dinner during Diwali or Christmas, but since repair work is on these days, we have decided to hold it during Sankranti this year.” Bharti Mehta, the joint secretary, says, “Even the children of the society are involved. The children take care of the decorations during Diwali and Christmas. We also conduct yoga classes thrice a week and vedanta (Gita reading) sessions twice a week. We also plan to build a mini health centre on the terrace.”

Another distinctive feature of the society is that it cares for its staff as well. “Most of the staff have been with us for the past 20 years. We, as a society, believe in building relationships not just with the residents but also with the staff members, as it is primarily because of them that the society runs so smoothly. The care extends to not just humans but animals as well. We have adopted a few stray dogs, who now help guard our building. We take care of them, we feed them, they are now our responsibility. This way it also takes care of the stray dog problem,” says Pai.

It is truly a society which cares for everyone around and seeks to keep the residents and the staff happy. “We also have weekly meetings, where the residents come up with their problems or suggestions to improve things. During Diwali we also send small gifts to all the residents as a token of our appreciation,” said Pai.
