Recently, Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla's wife, socialite and philanthropist Natasha Poonawalla took the internet by storm when photos of her carrying a Hermes bag went viral on the internet. Well, it wasn't any ordinary bag, Hermes is one of the most luxurious bag brands with products worth lakhs and every woman dream of owing at least one bag from their exquisite collection.

And so, when Natasha Poonawalla was snapped carrying the limited edition of The Birkin Faubourg bag from the Hermes collection, social media users couldn't help but notice.

Reportedly, the limited edition bag costs somewhere between $110,000 – 130,000 (approximately amounting anywhere between Rs 81,93,625 to Rs 96,83,375). As per reports, the 20 cm bag pays homage to the facade of 24 Rue de Faubourg Saint Honore that dates back to the history of the Hermes store since 1880.

And while the bag does cost a whopping amount, it is still not the world's most expensive bag or anywhere even near it.

Yes, you heard that right!

The world's most expensive bag was unveiled in November 2020. And you'll be surprised to know that is not a by Hermes or Chanel but by a brand that you not even have heard of.

The world's most expensive bag was unveiled by an Italian luxury handbag brand -- Boarini Milanesi.

Dubbed Parva Mea, it cost a whopping €6 million (approximately US$7.18 million or Rs 52 crore). Crafted from semi-shiny alligator skin embellished with 10 white gold butterflies and a diamond-paved clasp, the bag was unveiled to raise awareness of the need to protect our oceans that are increasingly threatened by non-biodegradable plastics.

As per reports, four of the butterflies on the bag are embellished with diamonds, whilst three others are set with sapphire and the rest with Paraiba tourmalines – totalling over 130 carats. The design and gems on the bag are inspired by the sea.

Boarini Milanesi co-founder Matteo Rodolfo Milanesi was quoted telling the Daily Mail that the bag was a tribute to his father.

Meanwhile, the brand's co-founder and bag's designer Carolina Boarini said, "Blue sapphires represent the depths of the oceans. Paraiba tourmaline reminds us of the uncontaminated Caribbean seas, and diamonds refer to the transparency of water when it falls in the form of rain."

In the short clip that the brand shared on their Instagram handle, they even mentioned that €800,000 of every bag sold would be donated to rid the world's marine environments of plastic.

As per reports, the brand will produce only three of the opulent Parva Mea handbag, which require 1,000 hours of work each to make.

Before Parva Mera, Mouawad 1001 Nights Diamond Purse worth US$3.8 million, held the record for the most expensive bag in the world.
