Rajasthan HC interim stay on RCA elections after appeal from ousted president CP Joshi

Rajasthan High Court has issued interim stay on Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) elections on appeal of oust association president CP Joshi. The court order has halted the election process till the next hearing scheduled on Thursday.

Earlier in September, registrar of societies, Rajasthan, had dissolved the RCA on charges of irregularities and appointed an ad hoc committee to manage the association. This was challenged by the Jaipur district cricket association. The ad hoc committee though announced of associations elections before the issue being decided by the court.

The nomination process for the elections was scheduled to begin from Wednesday, however, Joshi instead went to contest the fight on legal front. He had also moved a contempt petition Counsels for Joshi argued that  the registrar had ordered the dissolution of RCA on grounds of non-submission of financial records of two years and lapses in issuing cricket calender. The petitioners claimed that these requisites could not be fulfilled following high court’s restrain on annual general meeting of the association. While the issue is also under consideration of an appellate authority, the Joshi camp had also moved a contempt petition in this regard.

The ad hoc committee in its short duration of tenure has succeeded in making necessary amendments in the RCA constitution and secured the approval of BCCI and committee of administrators. The committee members while declaring the election process had held that as per the association constitution it was necessary to hold elections withing three-month period of dissolving the board. The issue has, however, once again pushed the cricket politics to legal corridors.
